RV Furnace Clicking But Not Igniting

You hear the blower fan start, then a clicking sound (the igniter), but the furnace never roars to life with heat. This is a classic ignition failure.

The Ignition Sequence

The furnace sequence is: Fan ON -> Sail Switch closes -> Gas Valve opens -> Igniter sparks. If you hear clicking, the fan and sail switch are likely fine. The issue is either gas supply or the spark not lighting the gas.

Check Propane Supply

Is your propane tank empty? Are the valves open? Try lighting a stove burner to confirm you have good gas flow. If the stove works, the issue is specific to the furnace.

Insect Nests

Mud daubers and spiders love the smell of propane and often build nests in the furnace exhaust or burner tube. This blocks airflow or the gas mixture, preventing ignition. A thorough cleaning often solves this.

⚠️ Safety Notes

  • If you smell propane, turn off the gas immediately.
  • Do not keep trying to light a furnace that smells of gas.
