RV Generator Surging or Hunting
Causes of surging, hunting, or unstable RPM on RV generators.
Dirty Carburetor
Generator carburetors have tiny jets that clog easily with varnish from old fuel. If the engine revs up and down, it's starving for fuel. Seafoam might help, but a carb replacement is often needed.
Lack of Exercise
Generators need to run under load monthly to keep the carburetor clean and moisture out of the windings. Neglect is the #1 cause of surging.
