Soft Spots in RV Roof
A soft or spongy feeling when walking on your RV roof indicates that water has compromised the wood decking underneath the membrane.
Hidden Water Damage
Water can leak through a small crack and saturate the plywood or OSB decking over months without showing inside. By the time the roof feels soft, the wood has begun to rot.
Assessment Needed
A technician will need to peel back the roof membrane to assess the extent of the rot. Is it just a small patch, or are the roof trusses involved? This determines if a spot repair or a full roof replacement is necessary.
Prevention is Key
Soft spots are the result of long-term neglect of sealants. Regular roof inspections (every 3-6 months) are the only way to catch sealant failures before they turn into structural rot.
