How RV Ventilation & Airflow Works
Understanding roof vents, range hoods, and fresh air intake that prevent moisture buildup and maintain healthy air quality.
Moisture is an RV's enemy. Ventilation systems manage humidity and temperature to prevent mold and delamination.
Roof Vents and Fans
Standard crank-up vents allow hot air to escape. Upgraded fans (like MaxxAir) move massive amounts of air, creating a cooling breeze without AC. They can also exhaust cooking odors and humidity from showers.
Attic Vents
Some RVs have 'attic' vents (mushroom caps on the roof) to let moisture escape from the insulation space in the ceiling, preventing condensation damage to the wood structure.
Air Flow for Cooling
Creating a cross-breeze by opening windows on the shaded side and running a roof fan on exhaust is the most efficient way to cool an RV without AC.
Important Notes
- •Install vent covers to allow airflow even during rain
- •Inspect vent seals annually for cracking
- •Clean fan blades to maintain quiet and efficient operation
